Stefan ended his professional career back in 2016. Since then, he has been working on developing IMPECT and our packing methodology and providing our partners with the most innovative and strongest tools for their work.

STORY & MISSION

Do you want to work with meaningful data in football?

Well, that's what our co-founders Stefan Reinartz and Jens Hegeler wanted to do when they were still active players at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2014. Unfortunately, however, there didn't seem to be any!

At an event of the Cologne Sports University, Stefan was in fact told about several studies which have shown: All standard data such as ball possession or duel ratios have no significance in relation to the final result. And Jens, as a player, did not think that his performance was represented by basic quantitative data either.

That's why we founded IMPECT with the goal of developing football data that you can use to make valuable assessments of players and teams.

Measuring what matters

Here you can see the statistical relationship between data and success in football based on over 40,000 games.

The team with more possession wins only 51% of all games, so it also loses 49% of the games (excluding draws). So possession or passing rates cannot explain football well. Expected Goals have a higher explanatory power for the final result. Goal-scoring chances, however, account for only a tiny fraction of the game - and where do they actually come from?

Unique Packing data has been statistically proven to have the highest explanatory power to success in football. Packing data can therefore explain what really makes good teams and players.
